We’re now seeing a surge in the number of employees that are working away from their traditional office desk with a record 91% of firms in the UK having at least one employee having remote working flexibility.
The progressive evolution of cloud computing and unified communications has resulted in employees no longer needing to be tied-down to their office desk by being able to get access to all the resources required to work remotely. Add this along with the reported benefits of remote working including increased productivity, cost savings, improved moral and it’s easy to see why this form of work is becoming increasingly popular.
Due to the increasing pressure on employees work/life balance, we are seeing more employers adapt to take a more flexible approach. There are many benefits of flexible working alone with 82% of flexible workers claiming to feel less stressed, however, employers can only gain from these benefits if implemented correctly.
“Remote workers are almost twice as likely to work beyond 40 hours a week and are 20% more productive when they get given creative projects remotely” – CIPHR.
Implementing flexibility into the workforce doesn’t just happen overnight although it isn’t that complicated with the adequate tools! Two of the more considerable issues employers have with remote workers is management and communication but now with modern cloud-based technology these issues can be easily erased.
Cloud computing certainly isn’t a secret anymore. Many would be aware of the cloud in one way or another but in short, cloud computing enables ubiquitous access to shared resources effortlessly over the internet. This means that as long as you have an internet connection, you can always have access to your work resources no matter where you’re working from. Using this along with a collaboration communication software makes it simple for remote workers to figuratively be in their office anywhere.
There are tons of applications that are available for instant communication, video calling and file sharing but the cost of having these running can quickly stack up along with the complexity in having to constantly be switching between applications. Companies are therefore now leaning towards an all-in-one software that combines all these features to save time, money and increase performance and efficiency. Enter unified communications and collaboration (UCC).
“Research including 1,300 companies found that 80% claim to have plans to implement at least some form of UCC within the next couple years” – CIPHR.
UCC allows for all employees to be connected for instant communications via the cloud all within one application making it the perfect tool for remote workers. For example, UCC will let you have all your employees anywhere in the world connected as if they were in the same room. This will not only improve the productivity of remote workers but the company as a whole.
“Supporting more flexible patterns for employees, increasing productivity and direct savings are amongst the top 5 reasons enterprises are deploying UCC” – Mike Sapien, Principal Analyst at Ovum.
Cloud computing and UCC tools have transformed the way employees are able to work remotely more efficiently. If a company seriously wants to make the most of their current remote workers or are looking to introduce a more flexible work pattern, a UCC system is critical!
